Vehicle Evaluation & Auction Platform

Taking vehicle evaluation from paper to real time.

The dealership process started at the customer’s home, where a dealership representative evaluated the vehicle and recorded the details on paper. The information then had to be brought back to the dealership and manually entered into the system before the vehicle could move into inventory and auction.

The project introduced an iPad-first experience that allowed dealership and inspection teams to evaluate vehicles, capture information, and update the system directly from the customer’s location.

The Problem

Vehicle evaluation was split between the customer’s location and the dealership.

Dealership representatives had to record inspection details manually on paper, return to the dealership, and enter the information into the system. This created additional work, delayed the process, and introduced opportunities for manual errors.

The challenge was to make vehicle evaluation possible in real time, while also connecting the evaluation to the rest of the vehicle’s journey through inventory, auction, transportation, and delivery.

My Role

As a UI/UX Designer, I worked on the experience across the vehicle lifecycle—from initial evaluation through inventory, auction, transportation, and dealership delivery.

I focused on creating the iPad experience for on-site vehicle evaluation and designing the workflows and interfaces needed to track the vehicle through the dealership process.

The Approach

The experience was designed around the actual workflow of dealership staff rather than the existing desktop system.

The first step was understanding how a vehicle moved through the dealership—from customer evaluation to inventory, auction, sale, transportation, and final delivery.

The iPad experience was then designed to allow dealership staff to capture and update information at the point of work, reducing the need to rely on paper and duplicate data entry.

Solution

Designed a connected workflow covering:

Vehicle Evaluation
Customer & Vehicle Details
Inspection & Condition
Vehicle Inventory
Auction Listing
Auction Tracking
Transportation Tracking
Dealership Delivery

The iPad experience allowed dealership representatives to evaluate vehicles at the customer’s location and submit the information directly into the system.

Once submitted, the vehicle could move through the remaining dealership workflow while its status was tracked across each stage.

Outcome

Moved vehicle evaluation from a paper-based process to real-time digital capture.

  • Reduced duplicate data entry by allowing information to be recorded directly at the customer’s location.
  • Reduced the risk of manual errors associated with transferring handwritten evaluation details into the dealership system.
  • Created a connected view of the vehicle journey across every stage.
